What is protective column? What does it do?

The protective column is a short column (5~30mm long) equipped with the same fixed phase as the analysis column at the entrance of the analysis column. Its function is to collect and block the mechanical and chemical impurities from the sampler, so as to protect and prolong the service life of the analysis column. Now on the market supply of novel structure of the replaceable core design of the protective column, by the protective column sleeve and the replaceable protective column core of two parts.

The protection column will lose some column efficiency, so the principle of selecting the protection column is to choose the short protection column with low retention value for separated samples as far as possible on the premise of meeting the separation requirements. The protective column is a consumable with less filling and lower price. Samples can be analyzed for 50~100 times. The increasing trend of column pressure drop is a signal that the protective column needs to be replaced.
